Metal Weapons of “Warrior’ Burials” Found in the Middle Bronze Age II Southern Levant – Economical and Social Aspects-Juniper Publishers

Image
Archaeology & Anthropology- Juniper Publishers Case Report and Results More than 1000 copper-based weapons associated with the Middle Bronze Age II (MB II; ca. 1950–1550 BCE) culture have been recovered, primarily in burials, throughout the Levant (Figure 1); [1-7]. These, funerary contexts have generally been referred to as “warrior burials”, and contained individuals buried with a presumed “kit”, comprising weapons, such as daggers, axes and spearheads found on the deceased’s waist and/or next to their head (Figure 2). The “warrior burials” are dated mainly to the first half of the MBII period (MB IIA; 1950–1750 BCE) and decline in occurrence in the Middle Bronze IIB (MB IIB; 1750–1550 BCE) [6-8]. Recently, it has been shown [6,7] that less than 25% of all the MB IIA burials can be defined as “warrior burials”, and they should rather be considered to reflect high-ranking members of the contemporary society, i.e., an elite social class . The weapons in the MB IIA “warrior’ burials...

In Mexico, Cockfighting A Part of the Culture- Juniper Publishers

Image
Archaeology & Anthropology- Juniper Publishers Introduction In Mexico the tradition of cockfighting is present in the states of Aguascalientes, Campeche, Chihuahua, State of Mexico, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Michoacan, Puebla, San Luis Potosi, Veracruz, Yucatan, Zacatecas and no state animal protection law establishes a prohibition for it [1]. The fights of roosters have different conceptions: sport, hobby, business or show, game of chance, bet, cultural and social element; and they are very controversial because they can generate passion or disapproval of the modern Mexican population [2,3]. So, it is not convenient to rate them; however, this activity is a social reality and widely spread. Go to Combat Birds and the Fighting Spirit Since the combat birds and man began their interaction, the association has been made to the incitement in man of the need to fight until the last drop of blood is lost; for example, the Spartans showed young fighters fighting or brawling as an ex...

Co-Evolution of the Willow (Genus Salix) and Humankind with Particular Emphasis on Estuarine and Delta Systems-Juniper Publishers

Image
Archaeology & Anthropology- Juniper Publishers Introduction The willow (genus  Salix ) thrived in the floodplain environment since the upper cretaceous period, e.g. fruiting  Salix  catkins were found in the Pipe Creek Valley, Dakota (Figure 1). The life history of  Salicaceae  is closely related to riverine habitats. Therefore, characteristic traits have evolved. Efficient seed production is followed by establishment on exposed riverine sediments and fast growth. High bending capacity and breaking resistance make  Salix  shrubs and trees resilient to river currents and waves [1], erosion and sedimentation processes [2]. Moreover, plant parts resprout vigorously after fragmentation by physical disturbance and flooding [3]. Ancient civilisations developed settlements along major flows. Willows naturally occurring in floodplains were used for dwellings along the Euphrates more than 10.000 years ago and for construction, tool handles, hoes and ...

Reflections on Museum Week 2018 and Restitution-Juniper Publishers

Image
Archaeology & Anthropology -  Juniper Publishers Opinion Discussions on restitution have been acquiring momentum. Museum Week in 2018 has been marked in the press by a series of articles which support this direction. It started with an email from an Indian colleague who was at the ARCA conference last year where I was talking about the history of collecting of European museums and the gathering of antiquities during the late 18th and early 19th century. This is an argument about which I have been very passionate and that has been at the core of my research interests, teaching and public engagement, since my postgraduate days. On the Queen’s birthday, Anuraag Saxena had written a provocative and passionate article Your Majesty: Thou shalt not steal on the need to return Indian artefacts to India, calling for a ‘reverse [of] the colonial-era plunder, especially symbols of our culture - our heritage’. With the India Pride Project, Anuraag is an active prop...

Sport: Instinct and Ancestry- Juniper Publishers

Image
Archaeology & Anthropology -  Juniper Publishers Opinion This article explores the beginnings of sport and its development over time in the civilising process. It clearly started as a product of survival and fight or flight mechanisms. However, it is also representative of a desire to cooperate and helps to show the workings of the human social brain. Even in its early days, sport was viewed as a means to avoid war and massacre. Sport has thus played an essential role in the stabilisation of our societies and been a driving force in the Civilising Process [1]. Freud (1916-1917) pointed out that the quintessential primeval motivations of fight and flight response tend to dictate much of our actions. These responses are embedded deeply in the unconscious controlled by the hypothalamus of the brain which can initiate a succession of events in the autonomic nervous, endocrine and immune systems when required. In Sports in the Western World, Baker [2] posits ...

Methuselah 900 years Old Variant Time Flow in the Old Treatment- Juniper Publishers

Image
Archaeology & Anthropology -  Juniper Publishers Abstract Here is a brief paper that examines the physics behind the extreme life spans of the Bible such as methuselah and Noah. There is a near perfect correlation of the plot of these ages vs. the generations from Adam. The Bible can be believed with certainty. The Ancients understood Physics better than we did until now. Keywords: Patriarchs; Energy-time parabola; Clairnaut; Regression; Gravitation constant; Energy; Time; Parabola; Variant; Ridiculous; Correlation; Nostradamus; Astrotheology Introduction Many of scientific mind reject the Bible because of seemingly ridiculous things such as three life span of the patriarchs. It seems to defy common sense and thus the entire Bible is reject, and faith in God along with it. I show here that our previous understanding of the Bible was incorrect; the ancients had it right. It was just that modern scientists did not know that time doesn't flow const...
